OLCU325 Entry #2

Journal #2

Looking back at your life –both personal and professional- what is the crucible that shaped your leadership and/or personal development? In other words which transformation experience or event has influenced your leadership development and how?

I would have to say that when I was at the end of my basic training, we had to conduct a training exercise the Navy called Battle Stations. Each challenge that was presented had to rotate through a line of recruits and that was when my turn came up to become leader. I was pushed towards the task of getting my group into a rescue situation, that's when my moment of stress turned around and I led my group out of the horrible situation.

How I see myself after taking this class? Well, I hope to grasp the concept of what is expected of me in the future and hopefully I will know for sure if I am a leader or a follower. I still have those traits of being a follower, because my whole life I have been told what to do and how to do it. However, do I dare ask myself the question "Do I have what it takes to be a leader?"
